ReThink Clothing

Rethink Clothing started in 2007 with something different than other tee companies. The art at rethink is all done by college artists. Occasionally, people will ask why only college students? College students have the most free lifestyle full of promise, fun, partying, inspiration, naps and just originality. Read below for the whole story

The Story:

During college, my late nights either at Taco Bell or some random house party, would always include a few conversations with friends about some wild idea. I do not know what it was, but I always had some wild ideas and most of them never panned out. So much that my friends always gave me trouble for not always following through on my wild road trip ideas or escapades. This time it was very very different.

During my final exam week of school, most of my mind was clouded with studying and long hours in the library. After finishing finals what better to do than celebrate with some friends. Like usual our conversation would turn to what would we do after we graduated college? Then it seem to center on women, and then in combination of how to leverage a job to get girls. Yeah we were college guys; cut me some slack. A friend suggested being a photographer or owning a clothing brand, I said it couldn’t be too hard, and I could do it. Let me, at this point, mention I have a degree in political science and not business, marketing, design, public relations and so forth.

Fast-forward past the long morning, and it was time to head home for the holiday. During my three hour drive back to St. Louis  I began thinking what if I did really do it? Start a brand that sells clothing. For me, though, it had to be different. It had to be unique ,and not just another bird embroidered on a polo kind of thing. Then I began to think about what inspired me, and I just kept coming back to college life. The life I led was awesome; your ordinary college life, studying, friends, new experiences, napping, all nighters, parties, late night food runs, and all those things that make those four years so rich and meaningful.

I call it my BAM moment. Others may call it the start of my long journey. Feature only college artists in my effort to produce something unique. I was going to channel the lifestyle of college, the ingenuity, the feel, the unjaded non-corporate artists to create what people should be wearing. So, BAM! Ok, so yeah this is great , never been done and new and is going to take off.

Remember when I told you I knew nothing about business and the clothing industry… yeah that became really evident early on. I launched with one terrible shirt, a horrible website and enough naivety for several companies. Things grew, though, I learned, and like Meyer men do, I immersed myself in the industry and tried to learn everything and apply it all. I did and quickly changed a lot of things and produced three more designs and worked those into two more and then everything else started happening. Artists started writing in from universities around the country to try and get their art on Rethink shirts.

From there it is an every day experience, growing , working and trying to carve out my niche. I do feel the college artists I use are some of the best and make designs that are out of this world. The stuff they do is incredible and I could not ask for more. Rethink is growing and I hope it wont stop.
